The effect of deformation on fabric development in columnar sea ice / E. Stander, Bernard Michel.
Title: | The effect of deformation on fabric development in columnar sea ice / E. Stander, Bernard Michel. |
Author(s): | Stander, E. Michel, Bernard. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre |
In: | POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.1. |
Abstract: | Reviews observations on development of aligned columnar (S3 or C3) sea ice, in which ice crystals share unique, usually horizontal, c-axis alignment, which can complicate ice/structure interactions as strength of this ice type varies with function of geometry and direction of imposed deformation. Experiments test hypothesis that c-axis alignment can be influenced in this way, and discusses results in relation to previously published models. |
