A simple approach to the calculation of air drag on sea ice in a weakly unstable atmosphere / Dag Myrhaug.
Title: | A simple approach to the calculation of air drag on sea ice in a weakly unstable atmosphere / Dag Myrhaug. |
Author(s): | Myrhaug, Dag. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre |
In: | POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.1. |
Abstract: | Important for accurate determination of dynamics of sea ice, such as trajectories of free drift. Presents simplified model for weakly unstable atmospheric boundary layer capped by stable inversion layer, such as might occur over high-latitude ice fields in strong winds. Shear stress is modelled by using linear eddy viscosity representation. Surface shear stress and surface shear-stress direction are presented, together with comparison with data sets from field observations and Overland's (1985) theory. |
