Comparison of three methods for in situ ice strength determination / Branko Ladanyi, Abigail Steel, William D. Winsor, Jack I. Clark.
Title: | Comparison of three methods for in situ ice strength determination / Branko Ladanyi, Abigail Steel, William D. Winsor, Jack I. Clark. |
Author(s): | Ladanyi, Branko. Steel, Abigail. Winsor, William D. Clark, Jack I. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre |
In: | POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.1. |
Abstract: | Describes field tests of three instruments: cone penetrometer, pressuremeter, and instrumented auger. All were tested on landfast sea ice and auger was also tested on lake ice. Penetrometer and auger furnish strength profile through thickness of ice, whereas pressuremeter averages ice strength over length of measuring probe. No instrument was entirely satisfactory. |
