Abstract: Uses three-dimensional finite element technique to examine influence of bottom roughness of ice on loads which can be transmitted from ice to offshore structures. Presents results of such computations of structure load reduction factor, structure localized maximum ice pressure, angle of defection of ice floe, and ratio of tensile stress on top surface in thinnest area of ice floe to applied pack-ice compressive stress, as function of ice-floe thickness variation. Results also apply to first-year sea-ice floes and to fresh-water ice sheets.
