Record #112804:

On the use of lognormal statistics to simulate one- and two-dimensional under-ice draft profiles / B.A. Hughes.

Title: On the use of lognormal statistics to simulate one- and two-dimensional under-ice draft profiles / B.A. Hughes.
Author(s): Hughes, B. A.
Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C12) (1991)
Abstract: Probability density function of one-dimensional measurements of ice draft is shown to be fitted accurately by set of lognormal distributions. Also describes technique for generating synthetic ice-draft data by interspersing filtered random number sequences drawn from fitted lognormal distributions. Sequences are interspersed by random selection to produce one- and two-dimensional model ice-draft profiles. Filter characteristics can be chosen so that one-dimensional spectra of model profiles agree well with measurements. For features with horizontal length scales >10 m, realizations of ice-draft data are in good visual agreement with measured profiles.
