| Abstract: | During 1990-91 field season, site survey was performed in vicinity of proposed 1991-92 drill site on Ronne Ice Shelf. Ice thickness and reflected signal strength were measured using 30 MHz sounder. Same instrument was used on George VI Ice Shelf for calibration and validation purposes as thickness was known from drilling. Analysis of radar data by separating transmission and reflection losses into constituent parts has allowed impurity concentrations of acids and salts in ice to be inferred. Type of impurity cannot be distinguished. |
