Record #112751:

Observations of the line-like nature of ship--ice contact / Kaj Riska.

Title: Observations of the line-like nature of ship--ice contact / Kaj Riska.
Author(s): Riska, Kaj.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre
In: POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.2.
Abstract: Presents results of two test series of ice contact: in laboratory and full-scale with icebreaker. In laboratory, test pieces were crushed and contact was observed visually through transparent indenter. Main observation was that contact is concentrated on line-like region where pressure is high, up to 50 MPa. Full-scale verification involved similar set-up on icebreaker, with window at contact zone at water line.
