Observations of the line-like nature of ship--ice contact / Kaj Riska.
Title: | Observations of the line-like nature of ship--ice contact / Kaj Riska. |
Author(s): | Riska, Kaj. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre |
In: | POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.2. |
Abstract: | Presents results of two test series of ice contact: in laboratory and full-scale with icebreaker. In laboratory, test pieces were crushed and contact was observed visually through transparent indenter. Main observation was that contact is concentrated on line-like region where pressure is high, up to 50 MPa. Full-scale verification involved similar set-up on icebreaker, with window at contact zone at water line. |
