Abstract: Using indentation experiments on fresh-water ice as starting point, numerical models for ice damage, clearing and flexure were developed, together with mechanical model of ice-induced vibration. Indentation speeds were chosen that covered range of ice behaviour. Modelling of damage process was used to estimate thickness and equivalent viscosity of crushed layer in various circumstances, and also to demonstrate change in pressure distributions at different stages in loading cycle.
