Record #112739:

Single pass ridge penetration model / Razek Abdelnour, George Comfort, Tom Peirce.

Title: Single pass ridge penetration model / Razek Abdelnour, George Comfort, Tom Peirce.
Author(s): Abdelnour, Razek.
Comfort, George.
Peirce, Tom.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: St. John's, Newfoundland: Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ocean Engineering Research Centre
In: POAC'91 : the 11th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, September 24-28, 1991, St. John's, Canada. (1991.), Vol.2.
Abstract: Describes numerical model to assess performance of icebreaking vessels in ridges. Model is applicable to case where first-year ridges are transitted continuously, which has been termed "single-pass" ramming. Model's results were compared to available field data, and it was then used to predict size of "limiting" ridge (i.e. ridge which causes ship's speed just to drop to zero), which is reduced greatly as thickness of adjacent level ice is increased.
