Record #112579:

Analysis of river ice motion near a breaking front / Michael G. Ferrick, Patricia B. Weyrick, Susan T. Hunnewell.

Title: Analysis of river ice motion near a breaking front / Michael G. Ferrick, Patricia B. Weyrick, Susan T. Hunnewell.
Author(s): Ferrick, Michael G.
Weyrick, Patricia B.
Hunnewell, Susan T.
Date: 1991.
In: CRREL Report. (1991.), Vol. 91-18 (1991)
Abstract: Quantitative theory of dynamic river-ice breakup is not yet available. Essential component would be description of ice motion near breaking front. Analysis is developed of this motion for specific case that is consistent with observed data. Analysis is generalized by allowing speed of breaking front to vary, and parameters of ice motion that are obtained represent different dynamic breakup behaviours that have been described previously. Measure of ice convergence obtained quantifies loss of surface area by sheet that is required for ice continuity, and distinguishes types of dynamic breakup.
