Record #112549:
Mass wasting on valley-side ice-cored moraines, Boundary Glacier, Alberta, Canada / L. Eric Mattson, James S. Gardner.
Title: | Mass wasting on valley-side ice-cored moraines, Boundary Glacier, Alberta, Canada / L. Eric Mattson, James S. Gardner. |
Author(s): | Mattson, L. Eric. Gardner, James S. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (1991.), Vol. 73A(3-4) (1991) |
Abstract: | Presence of core of ice, largely of glacial origin, is major contributing factor to instability of recently exposed valley-side moraines as it encourages mass wasting on slopes next to moraines. Most unstable slopes are those nearest glacier (most recently deglaciated). Mass-wasting events are probably triggered by accumulation of rain water and/or water from ablation at surface of core of ice. |
