The extension of the Late Weichselian/Late Devensian ice sheets in the North Sea basin / Jürgen Ehlers, Robin Wingfield.
Title: | The extension of the Late Weichselian/Late Devensian ice sheets in the North Sea basin / Jürgen Ehlers, Robin Wingfield. |
Author(s): | Ehlers, Jürgen. Wingfield, Robin. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Journal of Quaternary Science : JQS. (1991.), Vol. 6(4) (1991) |
Abstract: | Distribution of large channel-like features, comprising Weichselian/Devensian incisions, provide evidence for much larger extension of last ice sheet than assumed. Morphological comparison of incisions with those in north Germany and Poland reveal similarity in shape and distribution. Probably formed by meltwater erosion within margin of ice sheet. Absence of till may be due to later erosion. Large-scale reworking and redistribution of sediments is indicated by complete sediment infill of incisions. |
