Abstract: Fracture-toughness tests carried out using several methods of crack-tip formation, with one crack length and orientation, constant thickness, and constant temperature (-25°C). Mean values and standard deviations of apparent fracture toughness of specimens with blunt notches were higher than those with sharp cracks. Results provide preliminary estimate of required notch acuity for fracture-toughness testing of saline ice.
