Record #112506:

Image analysis of sea-ice thin sections: a step towards automated texture classification / Hajo Eicken, Manfred A. Lange.

Title: Image analysis of sea-ice thin sections: a step towards automated texture classification / Hajo Eicken, Manfred A. Lange.
Author(s): Eicken, Hajo.
Lange, Manfred A.
Date: 1991.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1991.), Vol. 15 (1991)
Abstract: Describes development of technique that permits differentiation between granular, columnar, and mixed-type sea ice. Thin sections of ice between two polarizers are photographed and then pixel-processed on PC for contrast properties. Two parameters, "contrast gradient" between grains and skewness of cord-size (i.e. length of perimeter of grain) distribution, suffice to make differentiation.
