| Abstract: | Data obtained from northern Bering and Chukchi seas during autumns 1987, 1988, and 1989, from ships' observations, satellite data, drift buoys, and charts, were adequate to detect interannual variations and to determine pattern of autumn ice advance during 1987. Ice edge was significantly further south in 1988 and impacted coast of Alaska. In 1987, ice edge was anomalously far north. These larger-scale differences in ice extent were due to interannual differences in regional winds. |
