The propagation of characteristics in sea-ice deformation fields / Björn Erlingsson.
Title: | The propagation of characteristics in sea-ice deformation fields / Björn Erlingsson. |
Author(s): | Erlingsson, Björn. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Annals of Glaciology. (1991.), Vol. 15 (1991) |
Abstract: | Investigates role of internal forces in determining geometrical properties of features such as leads and ridges in sea ice. Derives description of horizontal stress distribution in granular material subject to two-dimensional deformations; this yields expressions for propagation of deformation characteristics in granular deformation field with constant angle of internal friction. Characteristics are mathematical singularities interpreted as trajectories of constant state variables, e.g. ice concentration or thickness typified as leads, fractures, pressure and shear ridges. |
Notes: | Annals of Glaciology. Vol. 15 :73-80 (1991). |
