Computer technology, ROV and control, risers, mooring and cables, pipelines, international polar research, ice, structures and scour ... held at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, The United Kingdom, 11-16 August 1991. (1991.),
Abstract: Similarity criteria, in particular time scaling, for physical modelling of snow drifting in wind tunnel were examined. Modelling was conducted in purpose-built turbulent boundary-layer wind tunnel. Iverson's (1980) proposed dimensionless time, which includes scaling of particle and fluid densities, Froude number, particle threshold speed, mean wind speed, time, and length, was found to produce reasonable correlation of snowdrift accumulation rate between model and prototype. Tests were also carried out to investigate relationships between different dimensions of prismatic building and snowdrift. Results used to formulate design guidelines for buildings in Antarctica.
