Record #112445:
Ice-wedge casts of Wisconsinan age in eastern Nebraska / William J. Wayne.
Title: | Ice-wedge casts of Wisconsinan age in eastern Nebraska / William J. Wayne. |
Author(s): | Wayne, William J. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1991.), Vol. 2(3) (1991) |
Abstract: | Sand-filled wedge casts 25 to 30 km south of Wisconsinan glacier margin formed in thermal contraction cracks in dry windswept areas where snow cover was minimal, so that blown sand fell into cracks. Their presence suggests that windswept tundra zone of continuous permafrost, as much as 50 km wide, existed during Late Wisconsinan. Probably formed at maximum glaciation and climatic severity between 22 and 18 ka BP. |
Notes: | Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 2(3) :211-223 (1991). |
Keywords: | 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground. 551.345.3 -- Permafrost, composition and structure. Ice wedges. E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost. (78) -- Western states. |
