| Abstract: | Describes research programme initiated in May 1990 at Hobson's Choice Ice Island, northern coast of Ellesmere Island, NWT, aim being to characterize failure zone near ice-indenter interface. Specifically, investigation included measurements of thickness of crushed layer, comparisons of density of crushed layer with that of undamaged ice, sieve analysis of ejected particles, and microstructural studies of damage and pressure melting. |
