Abstract: | Argues that late-nineteenth century adoption of steam power by Dundee whaling fleet, through enabling it to compete successfully in Newfoundland seal fishery, effectively subsidised its East Greenland and Davis Strait whaling activities and thus contributed to virtual elimination of Greenland Right whale stocks in these regions. |
