Record #112116:
Simultaneous measurements of the charge, size, and shape of hydrometeors in an electrified cloud / Andrew J. Weinheimer, and 6 others.
Title: | Simultaneous measurements of the charge, size, and shape of hydrometeors in an electrified cloud / Andrew J. Weinheimer, and 6 others. |
Author(s): | Weinheimer, Andrew J. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(D11) (1991) |
Abstract: | Measurements of hydrometeors in New Mexico thunderstorm. Particles with detectable charges were primarily graupel, and their charges are generally consistent with laboratory measurements of ice-collisional charging. Fraction with detectable charge increases with size, as does magnitude of mean charge. Also, positively charged particles occur primarily at higher temperatures (>-22°C), and degree of negative charging increases with decreasing temperature (down to -35°C) |
Notes: | Journal of Geophysical Research. Vol. 96(D11) :20, 809-20, 829 (1991). |
Keywords: | 551.578.4 -- Ice needles, sleet, falling snow and graupel. 551.594 -- Atmosphere, electrical phenomena. E9 -- Glaciology: meteorology and climatology. |
