Record #112106:

Statistical description and estimation of ocean drift ice environments / Reinert Korsnes.

Title: Statistical description and estimation of ocean drift ice environments / Reinert Korsnes.
Author(s): Korsnes, Reinert.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: Trondheim: Norwegian Institute of Technology, Division of Structural Engineering
Abstract: Main result has been formulation of quantitative methods, including estimation of long-term iceberg collision risk for fixed offshore structures, based on fractal geometry and simple physical assumptions; automatic estimation of ice concentration from low resolution imagery, of sea-ice extent and, hence, determination of ice edge from low resolution imagery, and of ice-floe size distributions from high resolution data; automatic identification of single ice floes; and, finally, some critical comments on robustness of traditional image processing based on arithmetical operations on pixel values.
