Ice-deformation processes from mapping of c-axis fabrics / Anthony J. Gow, Richard B. Alley, Debra A. Meese.
Title: | Ice-deformation processes from mapping of c-axis fabrics / Anthony J. Gow, Richard B. Alley, Debra A. Meese. |
Author(s): | Gow, Anthony J. Alley, Richard B. Meese, Debra A. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1991.), Vol. 72(44, supplement) (1991) |
Abstract: | AGU Fall Meeting Program and Abstracts, December 9-13, 1991. In Byrd station ice core, grain size increased down to 400 m depth but remained constant over next several hundred metres. Discusses possible mechanisms to stop grain growth. Preliminary measurements show that c-axes in ice from shallower than 400 m in Byrd core have random nearest-neighbour relations, but that deeper ice has non-random fabric with many small misorientations. It thus appears that polygonization causes grain growth to stop there, below 400 m. |
