Dielectric permittivity and scattering loss measurements of Greenland firn at Ka-band / V.I. Lytle, Kenneth C. Jezek.
Title: | Dielectric permittivity and scattering loss measurements of Greenland firn at Ka-band / V.I. Lytle, Kenneth C. Jezek. |
Author(s): | Lytle, V. I. Jezek, Kenneth C. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1991.), Vol. 72(44, supplement) (1991) |
Abstract: | AGU Fall Meeting Program and Abstracts, December 9-13, 1991. Measured dielectric permittivity varied from 1.7 to 1.9, and was found to be anisotropic, with an increased permittivity in two firn samples when electric field was oriented perpendicular to firn layers. Analysis of firn indicated that grains were elongated in this same direction. Transmission losses varied, with average at 3 dB m⁻¹ through firn when using full radar bandwidth. Using only higher portion of bandwidth (33.5 to 40.0 GHz), losses were about 5 dB m⁻¹. |
