| Abstract: | Pulju moraines are defined as non-orientated, morphologically annular or curved hummocks. Genesis and depositional mechanisms of till were investigated in 1989, also relation to ice-flow directions. Lowest stratigraphic unit consists of lodgement till, formed during Middle or Late Weichselian in ice-sheet base as it flowed north. Middle unit is basal till, formed as basal melt-out till near margin of ice sheet. Now forms core of moraines. Upper unit is formed from supraglacial material accumulated on ridges in weak areas and in ice fractures. |
