Influence of topography on mass exchange at a snow surface / Edward E. Adams, S.A. McDowell.
Title: | Influence of topography on mass exchange at a snow surface / Edward E. Adams, S.A. McDowell. |
Author(s): | Adams, Edward E. McDowell, S. A. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1991.), Vol. 72(44, supplement) (1991) |
Abstract: | AGU Fall Meeting Program and Abstracts, December 9-13, 1991. Computer model is implemented to calculate mass exchange rate at surface of dry snow cover, taking into account topography and transient weather parameters. Calculated results are in agreement with conditions which have been observed for mass exchange at snow surface in form of surface hoar. During periods strongly influenced by radiative cooling to cold sky, surface hoar is observed to develop preferentially on surfaces more clearly exposed to sky rather than on concave surfaces with high surface-to-surface radiation exchange. |
