Record #111915:
The Stampede tephra: a Middle Pleistocene marker bed in glacial and eolian deposits of central Alaska / James E. Begét, Mary Keskinen.
Title: | The Stampede tephra: a Middle Pleistocene marker bed in glacial and eolian deposits of central Alaska / James E. Begét, Mary Keskinen. |
Author(s): | Begét, James E. Keskinen, Mary. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences. (1991.), Vol. 28(7) (1991) |
Abstract: | Discusses unusual case in Nenana River valley where tephra has been preserved within block of deformed sediment incorporated in pre-Wisconsin glacial moraine. Tephra is characterized geochemically by means of electron microprobe analytical techniques, and direct tephrochronological correlation is made with eolian sediments found in non-glaciated area of central Alaska, providing opportunity to correlate and compare two independent and widely separated sedimentary sequences. |
