Abstract: Model tests carried out in tank on level and ridged ice. Radius of cone at waterline, and ridge thickness and width were varied. Four processes of ridge failure were observed; these are described and associated peak forces and moments on cone are reported. Dependence of force components on cone waterline radius and ridge characteristics over range covered by tests is determined. Preliminary analysis yields nondimensional relationship for forces and test parameters within which test data are consistent.
