Record #111814:

Laboratory observations of macroscopic failure modes in freshwater ice / G.W. Timco.

Title: Laboratory observations of macroscopic failure modes in freshwater ice / G.W. Timco.
Author(s): Timco, G. W.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Civil Engineers
In: Cold Regions Engineering. Proceedings of the Sixth International Specialty Conference ... the Sheraton North Country Inn, West Lebanon, NH, February 26-28, 1991. (1991.),
Abstract: Reviews laboratory tests performed by several investigators on indentation in fresh-water ice, such as occur in ice-structure interactions. Discusses observed failure modes. On basis of results, map has been delineated which shows regimes in which each failure mode predominates. In spite of differences in experimental conditions among investigators, there is good agreement in results. Peak pressure exerted on indenter has been related to aspect ratio of tests.
