Radar monitoring of ice on the upper Niagara River / Randy D. Crissman, Louis A. Lalumiere.
Title: | Radar monitoring of ice on the upper Niagara River / Randy D. Crissman, Louis A. Lalumiere. |
Author(s): | Crissman, Randy D. Lalumiere, Louis A. |
Date: | 1991. |
Publisher: | New York: American Society of Civil Engineers |
In: | Cold Regions Engineering. Proceedings of the Sixth International Specialty Conference ... the Sheraton North Country Inn, West Lebanon, NH, February 26-28, 1991. (1991.), |
Abstract: | Standard marine radar was used during 1987-88 to evaluate potential for monitoring presence and movement of ice in Grass Island Pool area of upper Niagara River. System provided clear images of ice in river for wide range of meteorological and ice conditions. Could detect presence of ice and discriminate between moving and stationary or grounded ice; also between thick and thin ice, determined by amount of surface roughness. |
