Record #111778:

A laboratory study of shock waves in frozen soil / Piyush K. Dutta.

Title: A laboratory study of shock waves in frozen soil / Piyush K. Dutta.
Author(s): Dutta, Piyush K.
Date: 1991.
Publisher: New York: American Society of Civil Engineers
In: Cold Regions Engineering. Proceedings of the Sixth International Specialty Conference ... the Sheraton North Country Inn, West Lebanon, NH, February 26-28, 1991. (1991.),
Abstract: Focuses on two aspects: shock pressure attenuation and shock Hugoniot. Use of long bars of frozen soil mounted with stress transfer cap mated to Hopkinson pressure bar was investigated as technique for shock attenuation studies. Hugoniot shock data were obtained from high stress level impact on specimens in pressure bar by applying elementary theory of unidirectional stress propagation. Wave attenuation from low-level impact was exponential but results may be affected by wave dispersion and shear deformation. Hugoniot data were obtained over small deformation range only, owing to short wavelength developed by apparatus.
