Record #111426:

Observations on massive ground ice on Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, Northwest Territories / Wayne H. Pollard.

Title: Observations on massive ground ice on Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island, Northwest Territories / Wayne H. Pollard.
Author(s): Pollard, Wayne H.
Date: 1991.
In: Geological Survey of Canada. Paper. (1991.), Vol. 91-1E (1991)
Abstract: Presents preliminary observations at three locations on peninsula, based on field work in 1990. Exposed sections contain icy to ice-rich fine-grained sediments overlying massive ice. Gradation in cryogenic texture and prevalence of gradational contacts between massive ice bodies and overlying sediments suggest that ice segregation during permafrost aggradation could be primary process in ground-ice formation. Research programme will be continued over next three years.
