Title: | La zone frontale des glaciers Thompson et White dans l'île Axel Heiberg du haut arctique canadien: quelques observations préliminaires / Michel Parent. |
Translated title: | The frontal zone of Thompson and White glaciers in Axel Heiberg Island in the high Canadian Arctic: some preliminary observations. |
Author(s): | Parent, Michel. |
Date: | 1991. |
Language: | French. |
In: | Geological Survey of Canada. Paper. (1991.), Vol. 91-1E (1991) |
Abstract: | Thompson Glacier is advancing, while White Glacier is retreating. Push moraine of former has advanced 500 m over last 30 years; latter has retreated 100 m in same period. Lateral and end moraines of White Glacier are ice-cored and formed during middle of Little Ice Age, when glacier reached maximum at 1800 AD. Thompson Glacier has not yet reached its maximum; as it is three times longer than White Glacier, its response time is considerably longer. |
