Record #111249:

Subsea permafrost: probing, thermal regime, and data analyses, 1975-81 / Thomas E. Osterkamp, W.D. Harrison.

Title: Subsea permafrost: probing, thermal regime, and data analyses, 1975-81 / Thomas E. Osterkamp, W.D. Harrison.
Author(s): Osterkamp, Thomas E.
Harrison, W. D.
Date: 1991.
In: Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program. Final Reports of Principal Investigators. (1991.), Vol. 73 (1991)
Abstract: Purpose of investigation was to develop greater understanding in order to evaluate problems posed for offshore oil and gas development and production on continental shelf of Alaska. Problems include differential thaw subsidence, difficulties with interpretation of seismic data, geotechnical problems with structures, pipelines and other facilities, corrosion associated with brine in seabed sediments, and dangers due to decomposing gas hydrates. Specialized methods and equipment were developed.
