Abstract: Parts of England and Wales experienced coldest weather for four years, 6-13 February 1991. Continued freezing and frequent falls of snow were widespread causing disruption to air, road, and, in particular, rail transport, with fine, powdery nature of snow causing damage to train engines. Describes synoptic conditions leading to snowfall event.
