Record #111166:

NMR imaging of salt-water ice / W.A. Edelstein, E.M. Schulson.

Title: NMR imaging of salt-water ice / W.A. Edelstein, E.M. Schulson.
Author(s): Edelstein, W. A.
Schulson, E. M.
Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (1991.), Vol. 37(125) (1991)
Abstract: Describes system. 50 mm ice cylinders were imaged at -20 to 0°C. Paramagnetic Cu₂SO₄ was added to solution, from which one ice sample was crystallized in order to decrease NMR relaxation time of entrapped brine in ice cylinder and so speed up image acquisition. Cu₂SO₄-spiked sample displayed small brine pockets/channels, which resemble larger drainage channels seen in thin plates of sea ice. These contracted as temperature decreased.
