Record #110957:

The Niaquusat excavations reconsidered: a contribution to the discussion of the stratigraphy of the midden at the Norse Niaquusat farm / Jette Arneborg.

Title: The Niaquusat excavations reconsidered: a contribution to the discussion of the stratigraphy of the midden at the Norse Niaquusat farm / Jette Arneborg.
Author(s): Arneborg, Jette.
Date: 1991.
In: Acta Borealia. (1991.), Vol. 8(1) (1991)
Abstract: Excavations were carried out in 1976-77 as part of Inuit-Norse project. First systematic and stratigraphic investigation of midden, with intention of investigating economy of Norse farm. Discusses some of interpretations of archaeological material by interpreting midden's structure and composition (15,102 animal bones have been identified), and by C14 dating of layers. Process of accumulation was not regular or uninterrupted, as has previously been assumed, and chronologically mixed layers must be taken into account.
