Title: | Plant remains from the Norse farm Sandnes in the Western Settlement, Greenland / Bent Fredskild, Lilli Humle. |
Author(s): | Fredskild, Bent. Humle, Lilli. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Acta Borealia. (1991.), Vol. 8(1) (1991) |
Abstract: | Pollen and macrofossils have been determined in samples from Norse midden (c. A.D. 1000-1200) and from peat section (covering last two millennia) 1 km away. Midden samples, reflecting all aspects of daily life, include flax (Linum usitatissimum) and corn spurrey (Spergula arvensis). Vegetation that formed peat in fen profile reflects dry period up to landnám (colonization), indicated by charcoal stripe, and more humid period after extinction of Norse colony. |
