Quaternary volcanic ash zones on the Iceland plateau, southern Norwegian Sea / Jorunn Sjøholm, Hans Petter Sejrup, Harald Furnes.
Title: | Quaternary volcanic ash zones on the Iceland plateau, southern Norwegian Sea / Jorunn Sjøholm, Hans Petter Sejrup, Harald Furnes. |

Abstract: | Four Quaternary volcanic ash zones have been investigated in core P57-7 and appear in light oxygen isotope stages 1, 5, 7 and 11. Each zone shows distinct stratigraphic evolution. Geochemical investigations strongly suggest that all ashes are derived from Iceland. Youngest ash zone includes two layers which are correlated with the ¹⁴C-dated Vedde Ash (10 600 yr BP) and Saksunarvatn Ash (9 100 yr BP). Discusses possible sources on Iceland for these layers. |
