Record #110905:

Cryoplanation surfaces in the central Andes at latitude 35° S / Santiago A. Grosso, Arturo E. Corte.

Title: Cryoplanation surfaces in the central Andes at latitude 35° S / Santiago A. Grosso, Arturo E. Corte.
Author(s): Grosso, Santiago A.
Corte, Arturo E.
Date: 1991.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (1991.), Vol. 2(1) (1991)
Abstract: General survey. Most terraces occur in areas with mean annual air temperatures <-1°C. Largest on sedimentary rocks where m.a.a.t. are near 0°C; possibly inactive now and were formed during colder episode. Thought to be result of frost shattering, frost heave and gelifluction of frost-susceptible (porous) rocks in climate with numerous freeze-thaw cycles.
Notes:

Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. Vol. 2(1) :49-58 (1991).

Keywords: 551.34 -- Geocryology. Frozen ground.
551.342 -- Frost shattering.
551.343 -- Periglacial processes. Thermokarst.
E8 -- Glaciology: frost action and permafrost.
(82) -- Argentina.
(83) -- Chile.
(238.1) -- Andes.
