| Abstract: | Low-frequency radar unit of 8 MHz tested in May 1988 on Kongsvegen, Spitsbergen, where UHF and VHF radar, used previously, had missed bed echo. Brøggerbreen and Lovénbreen were also sounded to compare results with former successful radio echo-soundings, gravity surveys and hot-water drilling to bed. Equipment gave good bottom returns for thickness measurements in all cases, even in accumulation areas. Presents maps of subglacial topography. |
