Record #110847:
Post-glacial rebound and asthenosphere viscosity in Iceland / Freysteinn Sigmundsson.
Title: | Post-glacial rebound and asthenosphere viscosity in Iceland / Freysteinn Sigmundsson. |
Author(s): | Sigmundsson, Freysteinn. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Geophysical Research Letters. (1991.), Vol. 18(6) (1991) |
Abstract: | Postglacial rebound after Weichselian glaciation was very rapid (1 ka). This time constrains maximum value of asthenosphere to be 1x10¹⁹ Pa s or less. Further clarification of ice retreat and uplift history may reveal lower viscosity. Current changes in mass balance of Icelandic glaciers must lead to measurable elevation changes considering this low viscosity. Expected current elevation changes around Vatnajökull are of order of 1 cm a⁻¹, due to mass-balance change in this century. |
