Evaluation of second-order texture parameters for sea ice classification from radar images / Mohammed E. Shokr.
Title: | Evaluation of second-order texture parameters for sea ice classification from radar images / Mohammed E. Shokr. |
Author(s): | Shokr, Mohammed E. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C6) (1991) |
Abstract: | Object was to examine capability of selected second-order gray-level co-occurrence matrix texture parameters in discriminating five categories of sea ice: multiyear, first-year rough, first-year smooth, young ice and new ice. Set of five images, acquired from three SAR systems (one airborne and two satellite), were selected for study and represent three common frequencies used for ice monitoring: X, C, and L band. Diversity of data sources enabled investigation of universality of examined texture parameters (degree to which they are independent of SAR parameters and SAR image construction procedures) and expansion of scope of applicability of derived conclusions. |
