Record #110830:

A mesoscale ocean feature study using synthetic aperture radar imagery in the Labrador Ice Margin Experiment / M. Ikeda, C.E. Livingstone, I. Peterson.

Title: A mesoscale ocean feature study using synthetic aperture radar imagery in the Labrador Ice Margin Experiment / M. Ikeda, C.E. Livingstone, I. Peterson.

Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C6) (1991)
Abstract: Four airborne SAR images, collected during LIMEX in March 1989, are presented for ice features over Newfoundland shelf. Ice features with scales of about 1 km are tracked between images to give ice displacements. Direct wind-driven component is removed and residual is considered to represent ocean flow field below oceanic planetary boundary layer. Ice distribution in SAR images implies mesoscale features much richer than those in objectively drawn flow field. Difficult to detect ice movement in images with two-day separation because no persistent ice feature was identified in study area.
