Observations of short-period ice floe accelerations during leg II of the Polarbjørn drift / Seelye Martin, Robert Drucker.
Title: | Observations of short-period ice floe accelerations during leg II of the Polarbjørn drift / Seelye Martin, Robert Drucker. |
Author(s): | Martin, Seelye. Drucker, Robert. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C6) (1991) |
Abstract: | Describes participation in winter drift phase of Coordinated Eastern Arctic Experiment (CEAREX) during October-December 1988, when ship was frozen into sea ice north and east of Svalbard. Measurements of ice accelerations associated with deformation and breakup showed transition in ice surrounding ship from large floes (1 to 10 km) to small, broken floes (10 to 100 m) between days 310 and 329. Deformation and fracture generated significant accelerations which were associated with ice shear, ridging, and ice-floe collisions. |
