Relative dating of Quaternary moraines, Rongbuk valley, Mount Everest, Tibet: implications for an ice sheet on the Tibetan plateau / Douglas W. Burbank, Jian Cheng Kang.
Title: | Relative dating of Quaternary moraines, Rongbuk valley, Mount Everest, Tibet: implications for an ice sheet on the Tibetan plateau / Douglas W. Burbank, Jian Cheng Kang. |
Author(s): | Burbank, Douglas W. Kang, Jian Cheng. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Quaternary Research. (1991.), Vol. 36(1) (1991) |
Abstract: | Relative dating revealed strong contrasts in weathering characteristics of boulders exposed along moraine crests. These served to define three intervals of major Pleistocene glaciation; distinctions can be drawn between moraines that were formerly grouped together. Also, former and present equilibrium-line altitude for glacial advances preserved in Rongbuk valley have been calculated. These permit assessment of magnitude of climatic changes responsible for past intervals of glaciation and allow recently proposed models for glaciation in this area to be tested. |
Notes: | Quaternary Research. Vol. 36(1) :1-18 (1991). |
