Record #110683:
A contemporary small-scale thrust-fault near Lebesby, Finnmark / David Roberts.
Title: | A contemporary small-scale thrust-fault near Lebesby, Finnmark / David Roberts. |
Author(s): | Roberts, David. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift. (1991.), Vol. 71(1) (1991) |
Abstract: | Displaced drillhole in phyllites in road-cut at Skogvika, Laksefjord (Finnmark, northern Norway), shows reverse-fault offset of 5.8 cm, thrust vector directed towards 118°. Parallels 40° dipping, axial surface slaty cleavage of Caledonian folds. Displacement occurred sometime between summers of 1986 and 1989. Suggests it can be explained as resulting from release of accumulated strain energy, triggered either by seismic event or perhaps by actual blasting of road-cut. Aseismic creep may also have contributed to overall finite displacement. |
