| Abstract: | Account of survey conducted in area proposed for STATOIL's LNG terminal in northern Norway. Recorded 190 prehistoric surface structures (180 have been identified as house remains), five cairns, four pits (including cist burial) and settlement mound. Most of house structures are said to be Late Stone Age, but some are expected to be Early Stone Age or Metal Age / Saami Iron Age. Prehistoric cultural remains could also be found in areas where no structures were seen on surface. Future excavations may show that bogs are covering large settlement and activity areas dated to Early and Late Stone Age. |
