Abstract: Fragmented skull found in strata dated 1870-80s examined as possible clue to unidentified species of fur seal exterminated in first two decades following discovery of island in 1810. Skull, identified as Arctocephalus gazella, dismissed as being from a vagrant animal and not necessarily indicative of earlier population.
