Long-term monitoring of nitrate reductase activity in the needles of Pinus sylvestris in the context of environmental temperature and ground frost as an indicator of nitrogen balance in N. Finland / Pekka Pietiläinen, Jarmo Poikolainen, Pekka Lähdesmäki.

Title: Long-term monitoring of nitrate reductase activity in the needles of Pinus sylvestris in the context of environmental temperature and ground frost as an indicator of nitrogen balance in N. Finland / Pekka Pietiläinen, Jarmo Poikolainen, Pekka Lähdesmäki.

In: Annales Botanici Fennici. (1991.), Vol. 28(2) (1991)
Abstract: Needle samples were taken from peatland area of Muhos research station (65° 52′ N). Nitrate reductase activity in needles showed seasonal fluctuations, being very low in June-August and reaching maxima (1-2 nkat) during September-March. Activity was greatly dependent on frost and temperature conditions. In 1987 summer was cold; imbalance continued into 1988. Growth of pines suffered serious setback and many trees died.
